On Thursday, September 22, Buxton hosted the OneVoice Movement, a movement devoted to the pursuit of a two-state solution in Israel, in an event that featured two speakers, Eyal Shapira, an Israeli, and Obada Shtaya, a Palestinian. The two shared their experiences growing up in Israel; both grew up surrounded by violence, which shaped their views of their Palestinian and Israeli counterparts respectively. The discussion was lively. The two, despite their seemingly irreconcilable differences, found ways to relate, converse, and laugh. The two noted how they had not been in close proximity to each others’ faith groups, and that this brought them closer together. Also, they both expressed optimism over the possibility of a two-state solution. Eyal and Obada represent a bright future for Israel and Palestine.
