The integral role community plays in the practice of faith is powerful and moving. Finding one’s way into a group of people who are together simply to understand their faith better and hone their practice is perhaps the most ideal and significant way to understand faith.
The week working at Buxton is without a doubt full and colorful filled with moments of epiphany and personal growth. The greatest highlight of my week is attending bible study with John and the Falls Church Fellows at the Falls Church. Exhausted on a Friday morning and sitting sleepy-eyed at first as the sun slowly peaks through, the bible study never ceases to provide me with some of my life’s most enriching conversations. While I greatly value having the opportunity to sit and study scripture it spending time with a group of young devoted Christians aiming to apply God and their faith in all aspects of their life that is invaluable. From hearing the sincerely worded, heartfelt opening and closing prayers to listening to their thoughts on how to apply scripture into daily practice, I have learned a lot. Their reflections have enriched my own spiritual understanding and provided insight into a world I had previously known only on the surface.
The early Friday morning treks from my apartment in Glover Park to the suburbs of Virginia are truly worthwhile. Being welcomed into this gathering and understanding John’s world a little better is truly a privilege and I look forward to building on these crucial relationships and conversations
